"Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma Where do we stand today and future directions" |
Dear colleagues and friends,
It is my great pleasure and honor to invite you to attend our 8thCME on HPB Surgery which is to be held in Ahmedabad on 28th August 2016. The theme of this meeting is “Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma – Where do we stand today and future directions”. This event is organized by Gujarat Liver and Digestive Surgery Clinic (GLDC) , Gujarat Liver Cancer Clinic (GLCC),Society of Hepatobiliary Surgeons of Ahmedabad in association with Sterling Hospitals.
Hilar cholangiocarcinomais one of the most difficult tumor to treat. The anatomy of the hepatic hilum is complicated. Its proximity to the major vascular structures at the hilum of the liver makes resectional surgery technically challenging. This tumor is relatively resistant to radiotherapy and chemotherapy which makes the resectional surgery the mainstay of curative treatment.
Recent advances in the management of hilar cholangiocarcinoma have progressed rapidly, and the paradigms for its treatment have changed in a major way during the past two to three decades. Not too long ago the treatment only aimed at palliation by establishing drainage of the obstructed biliary system to relieve symptoms and to prolong life. The treatment has since evolved from non-operative to operative treatment, and from conservative to radical resectional surgery. What was previously considered unresectable and incurable has become resectable and curable. All these changes have been brought about not only by safer liver surgery, but also by changes in management which now encompasses a multidisciplinary approach.
Liver Update 2016 is aimed at surgeons having a special interest in HPB oncosurgery. This one-day event will be divided into five sessions with talks presented by experts in the field based on best level of evidence available from the literature. The scientific program would highlight the important aspects of surgical techniques and various novel therapeutic options for hilar cholangiocarcinoma. The meeting will consist of lectures, master videos, panel discussions and interactive case discussions involving world-renowned national authorities and experts. On behalf of the organizing committee I extend our warmest invitation to attend Liver Update 2016. We hope that you will enjoy the meeting and your participation and contribution will stimulate a creative exchange of ideas.
We look forward to welcoming you to Ahmedabad in August 2016.
With warm regards,
Dr Hitesh Chavda
